Centrepin identification.

Post by Wanderer »

Could anyone help with identification and information on this reel, please.
I recently unearthed this reel from an old box in the garage.
If I remember correctly, It was a car boot sale purchase, made over 25 years ago.
( I wont have payed very much for it.)

The reel its self is approximately 5inch ×1/ 1/4 with 12 spokes.

I dont think I have ever used the reel and it isnt running particularly freely, at the moment, but I've not touched it and it hasnt been cleaned or oiled

Any information on this reel will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hammerite silver paint finish to the back plate and seems very much akin to a Stanton - perhaps an earlier design from where he got his ideas from, otherwise I have no idea

The front looks very like a 'Harlow' reel. Cannot remember what the reverse is like though!

Similar but no of holes different in the drum as well as reverse view - plenty of images if you search Harlow reel

It is finished to a pretty good standard; at least some of those nice screws would be rivets in many cases.

Has the ratchet worn down in your ownership or was it like that when you first got the reel ?
