Would one of you Fabulous chaps be able to put a manufacturer's name to this reel please?
The stamp on the inside appears to say Kings Road Leeds.
Any further info appreciated

Sidecast identification
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Re: Sidecast identification
Hi Steve, when I first saw this stamp I did wonder if it was the address of Kenny Kendals Shop.
I am selling a very similar reel at the moment which I was told, originated from Leeds in the late 1950s, however mine isn't stamped and has no check arrangement but compare the front and back views.

Re: Sidecast identification
Hi Robbi,
my first thought was those Ballinson or B Allinson reels that keep turning up but when I saw that Leeds stamp I thought it may just be Kenny Kendal. I really dont know where his shop was but if someone could confirm it was in Kings Road it may just help to identify a few more reels. It may even be the actual makers address, (Arthur Crompton).

Looks like a copy of an SE Cooke Longcast to me?

Re: Sidecast identification
I think the SE Cooke ones are much lighter and have a crank handle on the reverse side. Similar idea of course, turntable mounting etc.
I suppose the fully developed version is the Ray Walton rolling pin.

Thanks for that Wal. The check or no check variation is interesting. I wonder if mine is a clever home modification?Wallys-Cast wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 6:24 pm Hi Steve, when I first saw this stamp I did wonder if it was the address of Kenny Kendals Shop.

Shame the partial address hasn't prodded any memories. Lost in the mists of time I guess.
