I saw this. I was equally curious about it.

Those large spoke heads remind me of Specialist Tackle reels, out of Romford 80's- 90's? I had an aerial copy, and I remember the brass or brass type spokes and hub. Nice reel.

I'm also thinking Searcher, Quest? Not dissimilar names.

Looks like a very nice reel anyway.

I know that all reels of this kind bear a certain similarity to each other, but the way that the centre pin is fixed to the backplate and the two big rivets attaching (presumably) the reel seat remind me very strongly of certain Richard Carter reels.. The general style does resemble some of his work.

I don't think that the spokes are necessarily heavy gauge; more like that because it is a smaller reel, they appear to be a bit out of proportion.
Is it possible to see some pictures of the inside?

I’ll send some pics later I’ve got a aerial gem and it looks almost identical to that. This one is 3 3/4 inch I’ve got some very good pins Chris Lythe / Garry Mills / Richard carter and this one is every bit as good made as them. Like i say though very similar to the aerial gem

I don't think it's a Richard Carter. His reels have a delicate look whereas this one is appears a little more basic. Is it a true pin or bearing? RC used bearings on his Gems, also the foot had a knurled foot and the ratchet button was to one side. See pic

The Aerial Quest was made by "Casting in Wood" in the late 90's. I have their catalogue. They were based in Stratford-upon-Avon. It was 6 spoke it sold for £170.

The range included:- Pegasus; Tempest; Phoenix; Monarch; Piscator; Vixen; Aerial Quest; Grebe; Imp Aerial; Aerial Snipe; Warwickshire; Avon Bard.

There was a Limited Range of 25 each which were:- Heritage; Pilgrim & Stour.

The sizes ranged from 3"; 3.5"; 3.75" and 4.5" but not for each range/reel.

I knew I had seen it before so after delving into my archives I found the above catalogue.

Garry Mills used to supply a lot of there spokes until he twigged what they were doing with them and cut the supply.

If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

As I understand it Casting in Wood basically used Richard Carter's reels to 'inspire' their own output.
