Post by DWW »

Hi
I am trying to put together a collection of the Intrepid Reels . They are all users and in line with this does anyone have a red plastic box for an Intrepid Elite that I could buy please ?
Cheers

Since my last post , I have had many comments from members so thanks ! I have managed to get two boxes one red and one grey . Can anyone help with the ages of the boxes and their colours ? I only thought that the Elite came with a red box . Was the grey one early or late or contemporary ?
Cheers

I always thought the grey was older but as I search my data I find that I have no genuine reason for believing that. For example: I have seen first model Elites in both grey and red boxes. Also, there is never a guarantee that a reel and box started life together so dating pairs may not be valid; your own efforts here are an example of that.

Hi DWW, Grey boxes came first ,for morritts all ready were using these for their earlier reel .Two distinct Elites were made . Grey , red plastic boxes and cardboard packaging covered the range.

My first spinning reel was an Elite, bought in 1962, it had a red box

Quite posh for a first spinning reel back then.

Yes, I suppose it was - I was 12 at the time - a generous gift from an angling mad grandfather

Here he is, fishing the Border Esk at Langholm, probably about 1958/9.
