D.A.M. Super

I bought a DAM Super from that "place" last week. It is beautiful, built like a tank, and in nearly pristine condition.





It has the same diameter spool as a mitchell 386 but I would never use it for beach casting because I'd be worried that sand might get into it. the Mitchell has the benefit if having a much simpler mechanism and therefore easier to strip and clean.
the reel is complete, as far as I can tell, however there is a 3mm. hole under the bale arm which could be for a buffer.If anyone knows would they tell me.

There is similar holes on other models. Although in different positions they all serve as a buffer for the bail arm when it flicks back. Pliers to punch holes into belts are a good tool to make your own. I have used leather which works really fine.

Chris, may I call you that?, I hadn't thought of punched leather/plastic. What a good idea.
I was toying with using a short section of 3mm. ABS printer filament but that could be too hard.

Leather works really well Paul. And if you do not have the right thickness at hand - I even superglued 'em together until they were just right...

I tried the leather trick today. One thickness wasn't enough so I super glued another on top. The hole was 3mm. but there was a 4mm. recess above it so I made a little leather top hat to fit it.

Both of my DAM Supers have the remains of the original rubber buffer. I'll have to replace them soon. I'm wondering, if the leather might cause any problems, once it's soaked with water?

I think if the leather was soaked in oil after glueing it, it would be fine.

Thanks for introducing me to this fix I've been using solid elastic on my old Daiwa reels that have the same type of bail stop. I'might expecting the 'laccy' fix to split/fail over time. Oiled leather sounds like it will do a better job
