Altex reels

Post by Sewinal »

Hi, Does anyone know any history of the MK6 reels made ?. I believe that they stopped making them in 1966; but I'm struggling to find out anything on the internet.
Regards,
Alun

I did read that only a few were made and that they were not released for sale as they were frankly pretty awful and slated by the angling press.

There was also a suggestion that the few that did somehow come into private ownership were the result of a sacked staff member 'liberating' them...though I'd think the angling press not returning them just as likely......

Sadly the images are gone from this now: http://www.traditionalfisherman.com/vie ... hp?t=19019

But there are some here:

Thanks guys, that's a lot more info than I had before. I bought the reel at auction. It included a couple of tools, two extra spools and a folded instruction pamphlet; all in a doubled cord pouch and then within a Hardy's leather pouch. This was part of the angling collection of a Pembrokeshire angler who fished the Cleddau rivers. It was hardly marked and the best of the others in the collection. I failed in the bidding on the associated Wanless rod, which was, to my eyes, as new.
Anyway thanks for the info; much appreciated.
