Oil of cloves

I've been using oil of cloves for years. Mostly for tooth ache and mouth ulcers. Yesterday i thought I would see what else it could be used for. I was a little surprised to see this:

"4. Cleans Katana Swords and Other Metals
Soak a clean cotton rag in clove oils and rub along a Katana sword (or other metal surface) to effectively clean the dust and dirt away. It also gives it a spectacular shine unmatched by other products."

Has anyone used this on a reel or perhaps even rod ferrules?
