Speedia Dettol treatment..

Post by Aitch »

I have been given two reels, a Speedia Narrow drum and a Mordex Merlin both in terrible condition and I wanted to try and bring them back to useability, I have seen on these pages that paint can be removed from a Speedia with Dettol... how long should you soak the reel please..?

:Hahaha: :Hahaha: well yes I think that's about right... :Chuckle: would a couple of days suffice ? or maybe longer? it's totally covered in a sealed tub at the mo...!

I have no idea how long it takes Aitch, I've never tried it myself but I would imagine overnight will do it.

Don't forget to show us the results.. :Thumb:

If you have cats be very careful – Dettol is very poisonous to them to the point that you ideally shouldn't be using even a very diluted mix around the house.

I'd use paint stripper even thought that's even more hazardous. It'll do the job much faster.

Bit late for that... its in a sealed tub of dettol in the garage (out of bounds to the moggies)

Last time I did one it took three days and a little bit of gentle scraping with a lolly stick.

I tried it on a Merlin and it didn't work for me.

What is your favourite word?
I suspect it could be “love”, despite its drawbacks in the rhyming department.
