Mystery rod
I’d appreciate any ideas you might have about this split cane rod that I bought recently. No markings. Red glass lined rings at butt and tip.10 rings in total. Approx 10’ long. Red and black whippings.

Re: Mystery rod
Does the butt separate? Is it made from cane or fibreglass? Can't tell from the photo!

Re: Mystery rod
It doesn’t separate. The whole length is of split cane. Apologies for the lack of photo clarity.

Re: Mystery rod
Seems to have lost some length as all three sections are not the same size. Should be 10ft 6in?

Re: Mystery rod
I’ve just measured it as 10’ and half an inch. I hasn’t appreciate the loss of the extra length though.
Would this have been a match rod?

Re: Mystery rod
I agree Olly
The tip looks to have been shortened a few inches.
Is the whipping on the tip ring a different colour?
As to maker could it be from the Scottish Milbro stable or a similar maker?
Anyone?
John.

Re: Mystery rod
Thanks John. Yes, the tip thread is a plain red, whereas the other sections have a black thread at top and bottom and the mixed black and red thread in between. Also the tip section now consists of all plain red thread except for the black thread at the ferrule and the red and black on the first ring only.
