The "metal" rods by various makers - discussed elsewhere on the Forum - do have a habit of eventually snapping through corrosion!
Cane doesn't go that way but can still snap if abused!

Also waving a super lightning conductor - as bad as those c***on rods - is not conducive to one's survival!

I note in the advert a reference to an Avon no:8 fly rod - did they make one or fly rods in general?

Just found that Foster Bros sold Apollo steel rods - they name the Wye salmon spinning rods and the Taperflash at 14ft selling at £8/3/4d - in their 1963 catalogue.

Thanks Olly. That is interesting. Wasn’t expecting that.

ImageImageI’ve found a 1951 Fosters catalogue ( at least I think it is, given the last date mentioned in it is October 1950). The “Ross” is priced at £7.6.8.
Two of the spinning reels are illustrated on a later page.
Incidentally, I think the reel in the illustration on the rod page, is an “Excelsis?”

That’s a lot better looking version than mine! Very nice. What reel do you use with it?

Here's an advert from Angling magazine January - March edition 1939.

Some well known names there, as well as many lesser known. I know at least one person who will be scouring the list for names he hasn’t looked into yet.
