No clue, what about you?

Post by Gudgeon Basher »

Morning Gents

Can anybody help with identification of a rod a friend of mine has bought, the rod is marked D H H but apart from what you can see in the photos I know nothing more until I go and see it at the weekend.

Any ideas most welcome I realise their isn't much to go on but if anyone will know I bet they frequent the TFF.

Thanks for looking

That looks a real quality rod Steve, very much like a Hardy or similar maker.

The butt cap looks as if it will unscrew and reveal a sand spike held inside the reel fitting, this may have a full makers name engraved into it.

Thanks Wal

I'm popping over to see him tomorrow so I will check that out.

On my way home I will see if I come pick up some mutton fat for my ferrules :Chuckle:

Allcocks certainly used the term "Quality Number" in it's early catalogues.
Who knows?

Just got back the sand spike didn't have any markings on it sadly, but it did surprise my friend who had no idea it was there.

~The seller shows some excellent pictures on that auction site - inc the spear! They too asked about the Maker.

A lovely looking rod.

I like the advice on using mutton fat or tallow on the joints! So it is alright to lubricate ferrules after all, just not with vasaline etc.
