Detachable Butt Cane Rod's
Apart from Chapmans FJT Float rod, do any of you chap's know who
made a similar rod using 5 foot middle and tip split cane blanks.
Making a total rod length of around 12 foot (with 24 inch handle)
or 12 foot 6 (with 30 inch handle) with either cradle or high bell ring's.
I know Davenport and Fordham and Chapman's made cane rod's in this
style with a detachable butt that were attributed to a Peter Stone design,
not sure that any were made with 5 foot section's though.
Most cane rod's of this style to my knowledge (which is limited I must confess)
are around a total maximum length of 11 foot 3.
Any info on detachable butt cane rod's regardless of builder would be
greatly appreciated.

Re: Detachable Butt Cane Rod's
I saw just such a rod, sold as a Sealey on eBay this week, can't recall the name, but it was one I'd never heard of, then there's the B.James Kennet Perfection.
There was one from Olivers recently, not Oliver's of Knebworth, the more recent firm with Peter Johnson at the helm.

Re: Detachable Butt Cane Rod's
Thank's for the info gent's, and the link Lee.
What's intriguing, most cane rod's with a detachable butt are less
than 12 foot in length.
The B.James Kennet Perfection and Linsley Barbel Perfection both 11' 6",
Fred Crouch Barbel Perfection at 11' 3", Chapmans 500, 550 and the
Peter Stone 600, all 10' in length.
Apart from the FJT float rod, the only other cane rod I know of,
being 12 foot or more, was the B.James Peter Tomlinson Float Rod.
Unless any of you knowledgable chaps know of any other's.
Has anyone seen a Peter Tomlinson Float Rod, which I believe was
12' 3" when assembled, and extremely rare apparently.
Does anyone know the length of the Allcocks Harvey Torbett cane rod?
That Strikerite went cheap I thought.

Re: Detachable Butt Cane Rod's
The Chapmans 'kennet'. The 12' and 15' versions of the Chapmans Hunter with butt and mid sections being hollow built, 15' version being as rare as hens teeth, don't know if it's a reel factory built rod or was a special order. I plan to get a price from Chapmans for a 5' mid section with the same taper as a hunter and butt section to match with the top section from a fly rod i have seen, to make a 15' trotting rod. i thought of adding a 30" straight (parallel) section as an extension between the butt and mid section of one of my FJT roach rods but the mock up was far too heavy, looked the bee's knees but Geoff Capes would be the only one that could hold it for more than an hour

"Harvey Torbett, angling journalist and tireless worker for young anglers" states the 1966 Allcocks catalogue. Consequently, the Harvey Torbett rod was designed for young anglers and, to answer your question, the length is 10ft.Pentonhook wrote: ↑Thu Jul 19, 2012 10:19 am Thank's for the info gent's, and the link Lee.
