Foxton to Debdale Wharf

Post by Rutland Rod »

My walking group left Foxton and went along the towpath, between the village and the lock basin a match was taking place, about 10 older chaps all with the exception of one using long poles, the rod/reel chap using carbon. Baking hot and very coloured water, walking back a couple of hours later they were packing up, very little caught but one said there was a good head of Perch along that stretch. I think Wreake Valley AC have the rights. Once past the basin area it was much more tranquil.

My brother in law would have been one of those 10 older chaps. The matches are generally won with upward of 6lb and very often into double figures, mostly bream and perch with the odd tench thrown in. Worm and casters are the going bait fished into the deeper water.
