Oliver of Knebworth glass 16ft float rod

Post by Gobio Gobio »

Although it's not an Olivers cane rod I acquired this very fine 16ft float rod today. Its in almost mint condition, the only damage is the damp to the Aluminium butt piece. The guides are rust free with only new unused varnish along their arms. I bought it from a local chap who told me his father had never used it. I cant find any information regarding this rather long rod, does anyone know about it?

Thanks
GG

The rod you have is an Oliver's match rod.I have a close whipped version of it.

What a great find! I rather like Oliver’s glass rods and am lucky enough to have a 14 foot “Float Rod” and a 12 foot “Tench”. They are both wonderful to fish with.

Blimey what a weapon and it looks all but new! Would that be a 14' with added dolly butt perhaps? I know very little of these rods but would like to hear more :Hat:

It is in the Oliver's 1973/4 catalogue as a 16ft Ferruless Match with Autolock £24 with half inch intermediate whippings or £18 without them! :Hat:

:Thumb: Well Gobio that surely has to be your rod of choice when I visit you with the 14foot 6 inch refurbished Benny Ashurst Match Rod and we have a day on the bank. Will I be out done by an extra 18 inches - more than likely!!

Yes indee this rod may well be my rod of choice when we meet up one sunny day Keith. See if Andrew can 'knock you up' an 18inch extension!
