The B.B. Society

Post by Rutland Rod »

I’ve been meaning to join for some time and now have, partly due to the Secretary also being the Secretary of the Beagles I hunt with, apart from producing excellent publications like this there’s also an AGM with speakers etc and other events all in this part of the world where B.B. was born and spent most of his life. This summers edition of the mag features ‘A Carp Water’ (Wood Pool) For anyone interested in joining there is a website or ask me for details. It’s £15 pa.

Should I change my moniker on here, it never occurred to me when I chose BB because my username was BoltonBullfinch. I suppose I could change my user name also. I dont want to confuse matters or make people think it was done on purpose.
I could change it to DW or FJT, what do you think??

Thanks

Don't change it. I've often thought about joining the Society, perhaps I will.

Page from the latest edition of the society’s magazine.Image other pages mentions how quite the countryside is at present a bit like now and how B.B. writes of how he can hear the tink of a blacksmiths hammer in the next village

I really ought to join as I have loved his writing since 1954. In my 1st year at senior school my form teacher, Mr Bill, used to read from Brendon Chase. The memory some of those passages have stuck with me. One such chapter was about the Honey Buzzard's nest. I recently bought a copy of it and read it for the first time myself 65 years later. It is a good old fashioned boys adventure book and this 'old boy' really enjoyed it. Although I do have a couple of copies of Confessions of a Carp fisher, I have just downloaded it to my newly acquired Kindle, so that will be my next read.

It is no coincidence that my Watermole+ reel was named the 'BB Crucian' and that my perch boat rod currently being crafted bears the moniker 'The BB Perch'.
