Milwards 1964 catalogue

Post by Paul F »

I got this from the USA, it is a 1964 Milwards catalogue in very good condition complete with UK price list. (51yrs old!)

Two pages talk about the reverse taper developed for the Swimversa, and this was the first year the Crafversa was listed, interestingly the swimversa cost £8/10s and the Craftversa cost £7/15s (not sure if that was a lot of money back in 1964?)

The catalogue has pages on choosing fly, spin and bottom rods, it mentions that some rods are finished in "Masterseal" This means the whole of the rod from the handle is sealed in a coating which not only enhances the rod;s appearance, but, much more important, it gives it the most remarkable protection. (Milwards claim they do not know how long it last) Oddly most of the cane bottom rods are protected, but not the Craftversa.
It would also answer why I found it so difficult getting a number of decent even coats of varnish on my recently restored Floatrover.

I always thought ABU were the first to produce a closed faced reel!

I love looking at the old catalogues. The how to guides in them are also very interesting.

I have two Swimmaster reels. It was two or three weeks wages for me to buy a Swimversa or Craftversa.
Old fishermen never die they only smell that way.

Steady PP...wandering through old catalogues can be very expensive. It is a very bright copy for over 50 years young though.

Harry, There is a one page on the Spinversa, and it cost £13 which is a lot more than all the bottom rods, there are a few fly rods which cost more.

Does it have a fixed reel seat by this time? :Hat:
