Newbie. how do i date My reels from the serial number

Newbie here.. hello eveyone

Have a small collection of closed faced ABU reels, as follows.

Cardinal 44x (x1) spotless Serial number 741000 ( any info would be Appreciated? )

closed faced,
501 (x1) mint
505 (x1) ok
506m (x2) good condition
1044 (x2) well used
507 (x1) Jammed spool cup face.. previous owner over tightened! any suggestions?

Also would love to try centre pin and split cane set up for stick float fishing if anyone can recommend a nice set up for sale with out breaking the piggy bank..

I Cannot help much with the ABU dating, I am sure someone will be along to help out - as far as a good sound pin is concerned i’d look at a Trudex or Rapidex, the Trudex in particular can be had a very reasonable price and is a great reel for the trot - with regards rods i’d plum for an Octofloat I prefer the deluxe for its winch fitting, its a great all rounder and has a degree of finesse about it but equally can handle larger fish admirably.

Welcome to the forum Abu450.

I think your reel is October 1974. Year is shown first 74 then the month 10. the last two numbers 00 are the production run or version. If it was 01 it would be a second version.
That's how I seem to remember it being explained but it only applies to reels built after 1971 I believe.
