Not scientific but worth a try without too much danger of damaging.
Grab a box of thick elastic bands (or similar ) and wind them on the cowl near the edge.
Build them up, one on top of the other until you've a good amount so that you can grip the bands, and turn.
The cowl is only secured by metal lugs and should pop off, good luck
