Well Found PH. Can only be a source of quiet satisfaction whenever its in use,
Even reliving the memory of its location must bring a certain pleasure, it would for me !
Is the top section still sound?

Well Andrew Davis looked it over for me and prior to stripping has indicated the top section is sound albeit that it has a slight set which he says he can take out. When I get the rod back from Andrew (should be February 2016) then I will put up the 'After' set of photos.

I am looking forward to using the rod in the early Spring and have a couple of Tench waters lined up to re-christen the rod.

Which order of priority to put them in. Milward original the Barder or AJD versions.
One of each it would have to be for I cannot possibly choose between them.

Interesting to note that BV has the reel set up for right hand winding although the strike is also controlled by the right hand. I may well try this set up which I believe was the traditional approach. At least the line guards on my older centrepins would then be the right way round!!

It seems a lot of anglers fished this way, but it's pretty clumsy moving the rod to your left hand to retrieve line.......a good way to lose a fish, possibly.

Whilst I don't disagree Nobby there must have been some sort of logical reason for fishing this way as on the face of it it does not appear natural - as to being a good way to lose a fish - well it must be one of the few not currently in my armory !!

Anyway I think I will reverse the line on one of my centrepins and give it a go in the hope it might be a useful experience.

Maybe BV borrowed someone elses tackle and made the best of it he could, looks cack handed to me. He looks a lot more fluid later with the multiplier.

There's plenty of film of BV (and others) still out there, showing he always fished like this.....most people did* and the Americans still do!

I confess I don't know why, but just try finding a left-hand wind baitcasting reel...OK they are out there, but not easy to find.

* I say most people did on the evidence that most old centrepin reels are right-hand wind and have their anti-reverse mechanisms to suit right-hand wind, yet most of us are right handed.
