This might just be "perfection"...

Post by Tengisgol »

Over twelve months ago now, in the knowledge that a special birthday was heading my way, I decided to treat myself by sending a deposit to Andrew and getting my name in the book. By the time i approached the top of the list we'd already discussed plans for my new rod, and undertaken a little research, so here's a teaser lifted from first ideas for the spec:

- a roach and dace rod, perhaps grayling and crucian too
- eleven foot six, maybe stretching that to eleven nine
- two piece, with a handle that be can be passed easily around the body when trotting
- hollow built wherever possible, as light as can be (Andrew has really pushed the boundaries)
- but as crisp as can be, with a fast but progressive action
- think canal rod!
- imagine hemp and tares, or hemp and caster, aiming for pound plussers!
- high bells but running down to a very small size at the tip and a nice small tip ring
- handle as per the Arun

Since then we've worked the idea, looked at various comparators, and Andrew reached the conclusion that only one rod maker might really have come close historically (with one-off's too, not off the rack availability). I hope I'm not misrepresenting him when I say that!

So, that's what he's gone and done and it's currently in the drier. The most recent message from Andrew came by text 'out of the blue', so to speak. He couldn't wait any longer, so he'd put a reel on it and took it to the garden. I assume he tied the line to a post or a dog, or something...

It was clearly a message sent with some emotion and a bit garbled. I am sure we can forgive any lack of modesty in the excitement but Andrew did suggest...

...it "might just be perfection"...

so we're all getting rather eager!

You'll like this AC (I think)...it's going to be called 'The Quinquaginta' and I guess it will be in my hands sometime later this month!

Fabulous!

I can only imagine what receiving a text like that from Andrew must be like?

If Andrew rates it that highly................
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.
