Tactio up date

Post by Bumble »

I consider myself very lucky that 5 years ago I got to know James AKA Andrew Davis and then over the course of time a trusted friendship was formed.
This really started with Andrew finding an original Craftversa where he was able to strip completely to get the excat taper and subsequently build me his own replica version. I have seen many replicas including Mr Barder's and in my opinionthis is far superior and true to the spirit of the original.
I now proudly own a number of Andrew's rod's built on famous tapers.
Some when back in 2015 we started to discuss another rod but this time it would be different not a copy of a classic taper but something just a little different. From the end of September through to end of the season I fish more often than not for Chub and Perch and 99% of the time "Touch ledgering".
With this is mind and after a collaboration of ideas we ended with a specification which I will do my best to describe now but remember its work in progress and as the build progresses may differ slightly depending on the "feel"
Length 11'3
2 piece
handle length 22"
Butt section Whole cane spliced into hollow built cane to the ferrule
Ferrule Light weight but strong.
Tip section hollow built until 2' from the tip ring.
The name Tactio came from my very good friend AshbyCut so I can take no praise for that but I love it and sums up perfectly how the rod should be.
The build started yesterday and Andrew sends me photos on a regular basis so full expect fellow members to be bored silly in the weeks ahead.
I have also included in the amongst the pictures some words from Andrew.
Hopefully you will enjoy this.

Straightening strips. When making rods the strips want to be straight grained and flat with no twists ,the nodes are the weekest part of the bamboo. The reason Bob Southwell has become so revered is because he heat pressed his nodes. The strips then become nodeless in effect.

Keep the pictures coming, every expectant father should be there at the birth.
Excuse my ignorance but is there a meaning to the name,Im assuming if AC came up with it there must be.
There are three things that improve with age: wine, friendship and water sense, and there's no short cut.

Tactio - Latin for "sense of touch" as in tactile.

Spot on, Sir. :Hat:
