It may just be that somebody has put the transfer on that rod in error. I say this because the cane and glass composite Floatcaster de-Luxe rod is listed in the catalogues as cane fell from popularity it seems unlikely that they would go backwards. Maybe the blue whipping confused someone?

They did continue to make the Octofloat de-Luxe for a number of years though.

Either way its a very interesting rod. I wonder how the tapers compare to those of the Octofloat.

The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,

Hello and sorry about the late message on a late post I have an 8 foot two piece Edgar Sealey Octospin Heavy that I have just re furbished, rather nice rod with an all through action. I landed three carp to 12 Lb 13 .1/2 oz no problems on a recent day out. If you would like some pictures just let me know and I'll post them on the subject.

Regards Trefor

Crucian wrote:Have just purchased a Floatcaster deluxe, later version, with the two fishes logo.
11', all split cane, whipped in the usual blue, lined tip and butt rings. 20" trumpet shaped cork handle with the usual nice alloy sliding rings and plain alloy butt cap.
The rod is in remarkable condition, having seen very little use, if any.
More importantly, the cane feels very nice indeed, alive and 'steely' in the hand. I have several Octofloats, earlier Octopus versions, and an earlier Floatcaster, whole cane butt version. I wasn't expecting too much from the later Edgar sealey offering, but I am looking forward to using it, it simply feels right.
The all split cane Floatcaster Deluxe is shown in the 1968 catalogue and the listing states, Split cane, super quality, general purpose float rod. Close whipped in black, suction ferrules, handle and furnishings as illustration. 11ft, three piece.
It is still shown as available in the 1969 catalogue and this time it says Autolock reel seat fitted.

Wal.
