Avocet (but a bit shorter)

Post by Damflask »

In a weak moment I have purchased an Avocet ( cheaply) which is 4 inches short in the tip.
Should I be looking to have a new top joint made, and if so...where?

I’ve been umming and arrring over that for a while myself if I were you I’d give it whirl first and see how it goes if not definitely get a new section. Because the rod has recently been refurbed the new tip section will aesthetically not look out of place and will give you a complete Avocet. A real bargain well done Sir!

Yes,
I think that we’re definitely talking about the same rod!

My B.James all built cane Avocet was in a sad way when I acquired it and at the time had the wrong top. Edward Barder made a new top for it to the original specification and refurbished the rest of the rod to his usual high standard and it is absolutely splendid and in regular use. Whilst I don't think Edward undertakes refurbs any more he might make a new top for the rod as a stand alone piece of work.

Well...
It turns out that Wal has a cunning plan.
A rod I recently received severely damaged, but with an intact top joint is very close to what is required.
