From B.James paperwork states Grebe was 8ft 2 joints price £8 16 6 and the Grebe Major 8ft 6inches 2 joints £9 4 0 can be fitted with Screw Reel fittings on spinning rods 10/6d extra.

here's another for the list: 'The Hollow Built 'Match' rod'. 13'6, 2 piece split cane with a detachable handle.

Just linked back into this thread and remembered that before the DW days, in the late 40’s, one of the mainstay rods was a whole cane ‘match rod’ with a Spanish reed tip...not a clue if had a name though but remember using one of my late father's ...............

The rod you refer to was catalogued as the 'KINGFISHER' and was offered in 11, 12, 13, and 14ft lengths however I have a 16ft 4 piece version which was almost certainly a 'Special Order' and bears the rectangular gold transfer predating the 'built to endure' logo. Probanly c.1948. I have seen split cane rods bearing both the 'built to endure' logo and the earliest gold rectangular label. I don't think it would have been practical to put 'built to endure' on a Reed rod!
