Walker's Taper

Post by Santiago »

What other manufacturers made mkiv carp rods with Walker's taper apart from JB Walker and B James?

And which company made them with a large stand off butt ring?

Chapmans' mk IV is to Walker's taper as is the 550 although the 550 is very slightly thicker in the butt if I recall correctly. I think this was to give a better transition into the detachable handle.

The 550 had a large butt ring fitted as standard, but there aren't many with original rings left now.

Thanks. So did JB Walker fit them with a stand off butt ring as opposed to B James using a low bell butt ring?

Hardy made their MkIVs to Walkers taper and some of their rods have the stand-off style rings. Not all B. James MkIVs are to Walker's taper, allegedly!

Thanks. But I'm guessing the Hardy mkiv's would have Hardy written on them possibly on the butt cap rubber mount?

The Edward Barder rod company. We build our MK IV blanks to the exact tapers specified by Walker.
