eBay resolution broken - B James Mk IV Carp

Post by Nigel Rainton »

I resolved never to buy a rod from eBay.

However, I saw a rod listed a few months ago for an opening bid of £400, it didn't sell. The photos were poor.

It was relisted at a lower price with the same poor photos, it still didn't sell !

Recently it was relisted at an opening bid of £150. I contacted the seller who lives close to me and arranged to inspect the rod. The rod was in very good condition and I decided to bid on it. The bidding closed on Wednesday evening and I was successful.

I collected the rod today. It is perfectly straight, has the original rings, the cane has no blemishes and the intermediate whippings are beautiful. The handle has been cleaned but needs a little attention.

It was bought in 1960 at Gerry's of Wimbledon by the seller's father and has not been used for many years.

I am very happy, I might have to open a bottle of wine to celebrate :-)

Everything comes to he who waits. Well done, Sir !!!

AC,

Yes, I have been waiting for 45 years for the perfect Mk IV ! I'm probably too fussy about quality. Where is my corkscrew ? :-)

Leigh,

I only bid on this rod because I was able to view it first, the photos were so poor they put me off !

I expect there are a few sleepers but eBay must have brought most of them back into circulation. It would be interesting to survey the members to see how many TFF collectively own :-)

I christened my B James Mk IV Carp with a nice tench on a day when the temperature nearly reached 30 degrees. I travelled light; just the rod, a net and a loaf of bread. I freelined flake just off the lily beds.
