It's your rod, Sir ! :Chuckle: But if that's covering a bit of delamination that could be easily fixed I'd have at it, rather than risk serious damage if I hooked into a lump.

But PLEASE ... take the advice of others more experienced than I !!!

J.J.S. Walker Bampton were a company from Alnwick. I think they were originally Hardy employees so a good maker if it is..

Who is Richard Alex Young or is Olly fooling me?? Silly question here! How does one measure the lenght of the handle. In another thread (cannot link) there is an advert for a Richard Walker mkIV and it says they have 29" of cork. This one has about 29" as well. For 30" I was counting the bottom metal button holder!

I thought someone would 'change' their name! RAY could be initials rather than his 1st name? I had ACE put on some of my handbuilt "c" rods!

Incidentally Sharpes of Middlesex offered an S/U Mk IV Avon, a friend of mine had one. Odd looking rod with alternate strips of light and dark cane but it seemed alright to fish with.

Personally I'd look under that whipping and find out how sound it is rather than risk further damage.
