My Hardy LRH No. 2 Split Cane Fishing Rod
I have wanted one of these rods for a couple of years now but it was not until I saw Stuart's post of his LRH No. 2 that made me set out to actually purchase one.
Its not often that I come across a little jewel in the crown but last week I struck lucky. Through a friend who knew I was looking for a LRH No. 2 split cane rod I was given a contact number of a gentleman who had such a rod, apparently this rod had not been used for a long time and was in very good condition. Contact was duly made and after a lovely conversation with the gentleman a cheque was in the post the very next day, three days later I arranged for the rod to be picked up and delivered back to me.
Today the rod arrived and I am over the moon with it, in fact I might even sleep in the spare room with it tonight. The rod looks to be in original condition, not a blemish on the varnish, the rings are all sound and the ferules are nice and tight. The number on the rod is H2096 which dates it to 1955, 61 years old. Even the rod bag looks original.
Something I did not know about until I opened the rod bag was a little pocket tucked on the inside of the flap and in there were two cardboard tags which listed all the rods details at the date of purchase. There is even a metal clip that fits over the ferrule.
The wife is going away for a few days on Saturday to visit her friends and family in Germany, the forecast looks to be good for the coming week so I shall put the rod through it's paces at the weekend with a bit of stalking.
My pictures do not do the rod justice.

Splendid, Sir. A fine acquisition. Enjoy.

A nice find Mark. Well done Sir. Can't wait for some more detail on its behavior when christening. Your wife will certainly enjoy a few days of nicest weather here (well, if you believe the forecast but it looks already promising) so don't waste your time and take your chance to experience equally!
