One of my best e-bay purchases
G18127 made 1937, red whipped, very straight, the joints are a lovely fit, complete with stoppers, nice clean bag and the aluminium tube only supplied with No1's
That's the good stuff, the bad points are;
The rings have been replaced, the red replacement thread is a bit brighter than the original (most of the inters are original)
The butt ring is original and good condition, the tip is replaced amber agate (I do have a spare clear agate which will fit)
Question;
Does anybody know of the original colour silk used and where I can get it?
The pipers GM red is too dark, and chilli is too bright
Can I send the original thread somewhere and they will match it?

PP have you tried piper peony? Darker and less bright on a finished rod than GM red, looks different to the shade on their website. I might even have half a spool I can send if I can find it.

Thanks for the offer, I tried Peony, which is darker than the GM red
I have tried Peony, GM red & chilli on a spare piece of cane, after treating with banana oil, then with varnish, and they are either too light or dark
