Allcock Superb 3piece.

Post by Delaminated »

I picked up this old Allcock Superb rod on the Bay of temptation a few weeks ago,
as I thought it had a certain rugged charm.
It was at a reasonable price on a B.I.N, and I could not resist it!
The rod is ringed rather sparely with only six rings, and the handle is a tad
short at only 24” as against the 31” of the New Superb, but hey, that 6r./24”h. spec. never
did the Chapman 500 any great harm.
I does need a rewhip and attention to the rings and ferrules, and I am tempted to keep the ring pattern
as is, to preserve the originality, as best I can.
The rod appears to have a t.c.of @2lb -2.25lb and will make a great carp stalking tool, but
what with the current lockdown situation, it’s more likely to have its first outing after pike in
the Autumn.

When it comes to the handle length just hold the rod normally and try to pass it across your body. If it hits your belly the handle is too long or your belly is too big. A 24" handle seems to fit all.
If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.
