Gold Label 500 pics

Post by Jeremy Croxall »

I am very grateful to Mr John Chapman who found me an original tip ring for my 500. I was thus able to complete the makeover and keep the rod to standard spec.
Varnish spruced up, rings cleaned and polished, two rings re whipped and its good for another fifty years I reckon!ImageImageImageImage
I am so pleased I resisted the temptation to strip the rod back to bare cane as I love the colour which I would have struggled to replicate. Adding additional rings would have meant a complete strip hence it remains true to its origins.
I am also very grateful to Fredline who responded to my appeal on the forum for a suitable tip ring which I fully intended to use on the 500 until I spoke to Mr Chapman who provided the original. However with John's blessing the ring he gifted will be used on my next project. Thank you so much John :Hat:
Good to be back in the 500 club!

I see what you mean about the colour Jeremy, absolutely lovely. I hope you get to fish with it soon.
Being a fairly recent convert to cane, I have yet to see a Chapmans 500 or 550 in the flesh let alone fish with one but feel that may have to be addressed in 2021 (I missed a local one on that auction site a few months ago and have not been able to find another suitable doer-upper since).
I have an Edgar Sealey Strikerite that I would imagine would be similar in action and it has become a firm favourite of mine, although it would be good to compare them side by side.

A object of true beauty Jeremy, just make sure you fish with it and do not sell it just yet. But once you do decide to sell it, don't forget me please.

Thanks
