Centenarian Dick Walker

Post by Martin James »

On Oak Apple day, May 29 1918 Mrs Elsie Walker gave birth to a son, his name was Richard Stuart Walker, affectionately known as Dick. Today Oak Apple Day 29th May 2018 Dick would have been a centenarian, without doubt the most charismatic angler born. Why not take out ten minutes and reminisce about how Dick helped your angling and give thanks.

At the National Vintage Fishing Tackle Fair in Redditch November 2018 there will be an official launch and book signing for Dick Walker - The Legend by Martin James MBE & Friends with all profits going to Crossroad Care and The British Legion.

An inspiration to many generations. A true angling great who certainly put back into the sport and always at the forefront of modern tackle development.

Hear hear, three cheers for the 'Guvnor' and author of arguably the most inspiring angling book I ever read.

I won't be waiting until then. Inspirational is the word.

What is your favourite word?
I suspect it could be “love”, despite its drawbacks in the rhyming department.

He was a little before my time, only picking up a rod in 93' and only approaching 6 when he died, but I've since bought many of his books. Stillwater Angling took two or three reads before I grasped most of the information it contained, such is the depth of knowledge he imparted.

He crosses a void between traditional and modern and is as relevant today as he ever was and so are his writings.

To Dick
