The river Witham

Post by Flightliner »

Very surprising to find no mention of this once famous river where so much angling history was made, particularly by the match angling fraternity.
Over the years Ive fished it close to its source near Granthem all the way down to the new lock gates in Boston.
My earliest memory was of my dad taking me to Kirkstead where we camped for a week in a pup tent very close to the bridge where there was a ww2 pill box (long gone!).
Come evening time after a meal cooked on a primus stove he would put me to bed and simply walk across the road to the kings arms pub for a pint while stood outside he could keep a wary eye out for me.
Absolute angling heaven for a small boy :thumb: :thumb:
Anybody else with memories of this river  .

Had my first two lb roach off the Witham with creed wheat under a float back in the early sixties. Like you I met and fished with some really great guys, so many memories, all happy.
