Floats.

Post by Thyratron »

My son, who I go fishing with, rang me up and told me that a chap in Dewsbury had some floats for free. We went over and was given a carrier bag with a selection of floats in. Upon reaching home we had a look at our new treasure. There was 20 in all, quite battered, but on closer inspection I noticed that some were signed. Nine of them;

Super selection very nicely done.

They are indeed signed C Lythe and Chris does make superb floats along with his reels. I have to say that yours are fairly basic floats compared to many he made. But his floats are in great demand and carry a hefty price.

He made me and some friends some fluted Avons, even making his own tool to form the flutes. I also won a set of six trotting floats that I have never dared use, especially having fished on whilst a fluted Avon fluttered in the tree opposite me :Hair out: :Cry:

This is one of the set of six..

Thankyou Aitch, Pallenpool, Santiago, and Dave, for your interest.
I remember making floats like these when I was a lad back in the early sixties. Mainly because I couldn't afford to buy the glittering array of floats in the local tackle shop. The ones I made didn't last very long as I was too heavy handed and clumsy. I soon graduated to using sarcandas reed, and balsa which were a bit more rugged. I'm still as clumsy, if not more, and I can well imagine how you felt Dave watching your prize float fluttering out of reach. the ones I make now are deliberately expendable.
Santiago, these floats aren't a patch on the floats that you make.

Cheers Thyratron. I suspect they're Chrisis early ones. His later ones are much better than mine.
