Did you see 'em?

Post by Nobby »

Two London tapered quill floats, one with an unusual cork body just finished on eBay.

They fetched £290!

I am not the winner. :Hahaha:

Here they are:

Blast, I wish I had seen them, I would bid more than that.
I am after this sort of float, I trawl the bay for floats but missed these....

Was it me that said that the vintage/traditional tackle market was declining? :Scared:
Actually, unusual items will still fetch good money, but I am happy with the selection of 'London Tapered Quills' that I have from our own Santiago! :Ok:

I got outbid at £222, it was all I could justify. They are probably worth double that amount. Find me another set like that?
If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

Amazing. They could/should be museum pieces!

Cork bodied tapered quill, over to you Trevor. The bar has been raised I'm afraid 🤔

I suspect the cork bodied one is a three-piece float with a cork sleeve over the middle section. I'm told the last one that came up for sale fetched £180, so you might take the view that the buyer did OK getting two for £290.

I think one of our members here got one about three years ago...so that's just 4 I know of that have come up....that makes them commoner than an original Craftversa....... ;-)

I would have loved to have added those to the display cabinet. I watched them from the start at eight pounds thinking they might fetch perhaps £120!
Glad to see the market is still alive and kicking though.
Congrats to the new owner. :Hat:

Wow! What a fantastic looking pair of London Patent quills. And what a price. Looks like I 'll have to put my prices up for my replicas, and they'll still be cheap! :Hahaha:

Wish I had seem them from the start, if I had know they were there I would have done anything to get them.

I bid so far then dropped out, they were special floats.
It seems the seller did not know how scarce they were!

luckily I have 2 original tapered quills (in the middle) :Hat:
