Easy Plummets
I find commercially available plummets are too large especially with smaller hooks and they occasionally drop off when casting so I came up with this idea and thought it may interest others, you can use any size bomb but I find the smaller ones around 1/8oz the best. The silicon rubber sleeve is simply pushed over the swivel and the hook goes through the swivel eye.
Easy to put on and take off but stays put while casting and works with all hook sizes.

Re: Easy Plummets
I used to squash a swan shot onto the hook, normally a small one, and when it was lead it worked fine but the new materials just dont stay on and I keep losing the swan shot ! and I agree the shop bought things are too heavy.
Your's is a much better idea, thanks for sharing

Re: Easy Plummets
For small plummets I put a dab of superglue on a small peice of rubber from an elastic band. I then pinch a large split shot or two onto it with a pair of pliers and hold until the glue hardens. Then trim off the elastic to about half an inch and just slip the hook through it.
Make up several for when you lose them.

Yes Mark, I always did that with the soft lead shot but the none toxic is too hard to grip a hook and I hate the way it flattens line, it must weaken it to some extent.Mark wrote:I always use a swan shot.

Re: Easy Plummets
For the smaller hooks and finer line Wal I have a few plummets made up, which are a swan shot with half an inch of float tube pinched really tight in it and then I push the hook threw the float tube. I suppose you could use them for the larger hooks too.Wallys-Cast wrote:Yes Mark, I always did that with the soft lead shot but the none toxic is too hard to grip a hook and I hate the way it flattens line, it must weaken it to some extent.Mark wrote:I always use a swan shot.
Please excuse the quick rough drawing.

Thanks Mark, I got the jist of it mate. Same great idea as Tru-Cru uses.
I'll cut a few bits of elastic and drop em in my float box ready.

I use a similar method to Mark, but just wrap some lead wire or lead strip (the stuff for leading windows) around a bit of float rubber, you can have it as heavy or light as you like.
On silty waters, I also have some made up with lead wrapped around a bit of sponge to make it only slightly heavier than neutral so that you can find the depth without sinking too far into the bottom silt and enable you to sit a bait on the silt.
