Anyone have more or better details re the Lucky Strike oval label?
The lucky strike is no fly rod Olly, originally sold as "a boys rod" it saw a huge rise in popularity due to Mr Yates singing its praises, maybe the one you've seen has been played with? :Hat:

Allcock did use the same name for both fly rods and coarse rods - Superb and Sapper - being two such variations, hence the question.

The rod in question may well have been tampered with but appears to have original low bells - but a screw winch fly type fitting near the end of the butt. Maybe someone wanted to use it as a fly rod? It can be viewed on that well know auction site. And very cheap!!

I am well acquainted with Mr Yates - he frequented the tackle shop I managed!

I vaguely remembered, from a lure anglers forum that I used to frequent regularly, that Horrocks-Ibbotson did a very early bait casting rod with a loop for the index finger on the casting hand called the Lucky Strike. I just googled it but the only image I could find on-line was here:

http://customrodsmith.com/0225_Horrocks ... it_rod.htm

I remembered that it had intrigued me at the time because I had recently written a paper on the early history of tobacco advertising and tobacco companies have always been very keen on protecting their image and brand rights! American tobacco brands only really went international in the 1960s, so Allcocks would have been safe!
