Here are a few pictures of my Allcocks Avon nice colour, it just needs new rings whippings and varnish all in good time.

The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).

I'm not sure if this was just a missprint or if there was an Allcocks Easicast rod as well as the reel.

I just found this by chance on ebay and it seems to point to proof of a rod made by Allcocks called the Easicast rod and it being 10ft in length.

What do others think?

Edit, I just looked on the list and saw it on there but it says 9ft on the list, so I would imagine it also came in 10ft.

God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling.

Spotted in the 1953 'Coronation Year' catalogue :-

"The "Hughes Parry." This rod has been introduced to meet the special requirements of the angler who wishes to spin single-handed with the 'Felton Crosswind', using a 6lb. line. 2 joint built cane, solid cork handle, reinforced suction ferrules, agate rings throughout (extra large butt ring), sliding winch fitting, rubber button, partitioned bag. 7ft. 9in. 127/6. "
"Beside the water I discovered (or maybe rediscovered) the quiet. The sort of quiet that allows one to be woven into the tapestry of nature instead of merely standing next to it." Estaban.

It was still in the 1966 catalogue - substitute "Ambidex de luxe" - 7.5ozs - 162/- each + 27/- PTax

Light Caster - Hughes Parry - Nimrod - then - Patrician 9.5ft + Kenlee 10ft both casting 2oz then Lepson D/l in 8 or 9ft casting weight 3oz

Also found in 1966 - a sea rod the Allcock Wessex - 3joint built cane float rod in either 9ft or 10ft -- for pollack & mackerel.

How does the Avon compare with a Record Breaker or Lucky Strike?
