Ryobi 233 Spinning reel

Post by Tony1964 »

I bought this little reel recently with the intention of using it for a little bit of fun spinning for perch and small pike. I paid £5 for the reel and was surprised to find that it came complete in original 70's packing and still had all of the paperwork. Not bad for nearly 40 years old!

Some of those Japanese reels are far better made than one might suspect. I have some by Karman and they put anything by Intrepid to shame, sadly.

A lot of reels one might think were American are actually Japanese, the makers hiding their identity in such names as Karman, Angler Scout etc. etc.

Some nice reels here chaps and in very good condition. I think it is easy to get caught up with the name game and end up spending loads of cash for old reels which don't work too well. I'm sure there are plenty of other reels out there which work well and cost reasonable amounts

I thought at first the Aqua Spin was a Mitchell 304 copy, but the stem suggests that bale arm return is achieved in the ...'ballistic' Intrepid manner. Horrid, noisy idea!
