Hunter
Well i finally managed to source a hunter.
I,v been looking for one of these for ages when i get a phone call telling me of one for sale not to far from me.
Had a look and a waggle and the rod seem,s OK to use as is, it,s full length but will need a set of intermediate ring,s and a coat of varnish to bring it up to top condition.

Well done Sir! Looks lovely!
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Indeed, looks great. Not had chance to waggle one, but supposed to be a great rod

Re: Hunter
I have just finished restoring another Hunter SP and it's going to one of the bailiffs on a local club, bit sad as i turned out better than the one i already have, and that's fantastic and the older version with intermediate whippings. The 'SP' just looks so clean and uncluttered and would look great next to my 500. I will keep the next one I do as it needs a new top section and ferules so will be a lot more work, someone tried to 'fold it' at the ferules and bent both beyond repair
Still searching for a 14' version though

Re: Hunter
Lovely rod there, LJ. They are indeed a fantastic rod. Mine has what I first thought were dark brown whippings but later learned were in fact black.
Know this has been asked before, might even have been me, but what difference a Hunter and a Hunter SP?

Re: Hunter
That is a very nice looking rod, I like Chapmans a lot so when finances allow I may treat myself. I had a look back at the Chapmans threads and am pleased that there was so much information on them there. Thanks all

Re: Hunter
Only needed two intermediate ring,s in the end, they have been changed so a full re-whip apart from the bit by the handle.
I believe the Hunter has intermediate whipping the SP has,ntHaydn Clarke wrote: Know this has been asked before, might even have been me, but what difference a Hunter and a Hunter SP?

Re: Hunter
you need to remember i'm a big lad Nobby, my 12'6 FJT bassed specialist if a far heavier rod than a hunter. i tried with one of my 12' hunters when stripped down to add a 30" handle thus making the whole thing 14'6", nearly built it, the ferule for the butt to first section would be the same as for the FJT so i may still do it with a nasty one i have found. If it doesn't work i can just strip the butt section down and rebuild the cork handle, and return the handle to one of my FJTs. i will admit it may involve adding a couple of ounces of lead in the end of the aluminium tube of the handle to improve balance as it's not the weight that would make it hard work but the balanceNobby wrote:Don't do it......unless you get a Bullworker too
