Here's an old Intrepid reel advert from the 'Fishing Magazine' December 1966.

Excellent, sir. Good to see what they were costing when I was 15. At £6.05 p (121 shillings in real money) it would have taken me nearly 25 weeks to have afforded one with my pocket money !!!

To try to put in context, Sir ... my first full weekly pay packet in 1969 for a full time job was £9.63p.

Blimey! What were you? A brain surgeon?

Surely the 63p wouldn't have come in until 1971 with decimalisation?

a) I had a summer job on a building site before I went to college, and b) I made the conversion for those younger than myself, of which there are many !!!

Thanks for posting that Mark - I would have been 13 when the advertisment was published. To add abit more financial context that would have been around the time I bought my B. James Mk IV, which I think was 10 guineas  It took me forever to save up for it, helped by 'birthday money', 'Christmas money', and whatever I could save from pocket money.

Ashbycut's wages of £9.63 in 1969 equals £131.64 today.

The 1966 Intrepid at 121 shilling (£6.05) would cost today £92.20
