1940 Croizix Le Soie spin reel

Post by Woodbilly »

A few pictures of one of my favorite crappie fishing reels.
My rare French made Croizix half bail spin reel distributed by Le Soie
"the silk line".

It has a very unique spool oscillation, much like a vintage sewing machine bobbin. Line lay is very good. It has no anti reverse. Ultralight in size, but 10 oz. in weight. Very smooth action. 2.75:1 ratio

I have completely tore this reel down. Polished aluminum body and stamped tin spool housing. Smoothed out a tiny dent in the badge. It is now flat and crisp.
Oil shined Bakelite spool and sanded surface rust from steel bail arm.
I also flipped side plate screws so slot heads were on badge side and nuts on handle side. They were backwards when I received the reel.

I use this reel and have caught many crappie with it. Very fun to fish with and always gets compliments.

Peace!

Top job there Steven! :Hat:

That is a beautiful old reel and a big ol' speck. I wish we had them over here (Croizix reels and crappies that is).

Do you use a long rod with that reel?

Thanks. We love our crappie, here. Lol

I use a modern FXtreme 6'6" spin rod with all my vintage reels in rotation every week.

A beautiful job on a beautiful reel. Well done.

Thank you! A very rare girl, indeed. I feel privileged to be it's keeper, during its chapter of my life.

:Thumb: You really get it, don't you Steven. We are not owners, just custodians.

If only they could talk! (Except N.I.B. - Collectors love them, but they've got nothing to say. ).

100 percent

I love my scarred up reels and other antiques. I know they are only "mine" for a short time. I try to not get attached, but it's difficult,
When I refurbish, I always like to leave my initials, tiny scribed, on the inside somewhere. My little secret. Lol

YouTube video of reel in action before teardown.
Note spool oscillation modeled after sewing machine bobbin of the time.
Enjoy!
