Fishing with the B James & Son MK1V Carp rod

Post by David »

Hi all. I expect most of you have seen the Youtube video of a guy showing great pleasure in catching carp on a MK 1V rod. But just in case you have not If you go onto Youtube and search The carp catcher. GOLDEN COMMONS. This guy lets you see the joys in using Traditional tackle, as apposed to modern broom handle style of rods. It is a film about 4 years old now, and I have watched it many times, I find it very enjoyable.

Many thanks for posting - I enjoyed that. How different it is though to carp fishing in the 1960s - I would be lucky to catch one carp in a month then generally on bread flake or luncheon meat ( never had any confidence in a potato). Now it is not unusual to catch 5 in a day.

Enjoyed the film.
But for me it was all about the action of MK1V...
That juddering clutch is something you either love or struggle with... ( I have 301's)
the old centerpin with the same rod is poetry in Motion in my books... but... enjoyed the video and his enthusiasm and hats off to him for taking the time to share his thoughts, catch and location..

Mr B
The close season is an important and interesting time for the Angler who set out to catch big fish. It is a timely opportunity for him to make new tackle or renovate old. There are no end of jobs to do, apart from those horrible things called Gardens!

Hi Mr B. The action of the MK1V is the reason why I enjoy this film, The carp themselves just add to the joy of using this rod, and was why I hoped others might enjoy watching it. By the replies so far, it seems to be liked by others. After all, is this not what we all like on TFF. :Thumb:
