I have just bought this first edition of the J W Youngs Pattern 10B trout fly reel and distributed by Milwards as the Flycraft in the early 1930's. The reel is amazingly similar to the Hardy Perfect fly reel, the major difference between the Flycraft and the Hardy Perfect is the Hardy has an integral screw thread fitting. The riveted white xylonite handle makes this the first batch of this reel to be made. Youngs changed the handle quite quickly to a black handle with a threaded stem. It is a 3 piece construction, main frame perforated spool and a handle plate, with a rim mounted tension adjuster and a 2 screw reel fitting. The reel is in incredible condition both cosmetically and mechanically and so is the box. So where has this sat for 90 years? We will never know.
