I adore The Whopper, such an easy read and so much fun.

His later work "a summer on the Nene" is also most enjoyable.
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.

In that book, he catches a net of bleak and fries them like whitebait for dinner, iirc.

One of the reasons BB's writing has an impact is its authenticity; he had a vast wealth of experience, often handed on to him by rural acquaintances. Very few modern countryside writers (John Lewis-Stempel comes close...) have BB's depth, but their dilemma is that large tracts of the British countryside are being filleted of their wildlife by increased footfall. This comes in many forms, including those who regard the countryside as merely an as yet 'unrealised marketing asset', ripe for corporate (eg Center Parcs) 'development' (another oxymoron, with the emphasis on the last 5 letters...).

All his books are excellent, my personal favourite is Fishermans Folly for fishing, and for hunting my other pursuit it’s Wild Lone the story of a Pytchley Fox and as a Beagler it’s Lepus the Hare. Both these are based in ‘Pytchley Hunt country ‘ where he spent his childhood at Lamport Rectory.

The Pegasus Book of The. Countryside is I believe the rarest of his books. I was unaware of this when many years ago I found at a school jumble sale an Ex Libris copy that had been defaced by a youngster(I presume?) with crayons. I almost didn't buy it because of the damage but I thought it would be a good read for a few pence.
I've only seen one other copy for sale at auction and it went for several hundred pounds.ImageImageImageImage

Thank you Fredline for posting this bibliography. Apart from some of the children's books I really thought that I had every book BB had published - until now. There are three or four on there which I have overlooked and will now track down. You've made my evening!
