Milwards Flyrover SFR 9' 5" #7

Post by Nigel Rainton »

I have just bought the above rod. It's in immaculate condition, 1 tip, no bag.

It was made about 1960 and has not been restored.

Two questions ...

1. Does anyone know what the number 34480 in Indian ink on the rod butt section means ?

2. The female ferrule has a hole drilled in it just under the reinforced lip and the male ferrule has a round mark which matches the
hole when the rod rings align. This is not a locking mechanism as the Milwards catalogues make it clear that they didn't use such devices on their rods. Is this just a method for aligning the rod rings ? It would have been easier to use a blob of paint or a punch mark !

Nigel :-)

I have two of these and use one(with two tips) for salmon fishing in Ireland .I am in Ireland at the moment waiting for rain to get the salmon moving! The Flyrover I have here is 10' 2" and is numbered 6635.The one I have in England has a fighting
Butt and I have used it for early season reservoir trout fishing.
