Float fishing books

Post by Danesman »

Morning Folks,

I am looking for a book on floats and float fishing to give to my grandson. Ideally it will describe all floats, explaining when to use them and why along with shotting patterns etc. Any suggestions ?

“Stick Float Wizardry” by Jim Baxter. Doesn’t cover all floats but covers mastering the essential river float.

“Fishing With Emma” - a modern day version of Mr. Crabtree covers all types of fishing.
Oh to be at my “Happy Place” where nothing matters but the being there.

Allan Haines did an excellent book, The Complete Book of Floatfishing - plenty listed on Amazon at £3 or so. Jim Baxter's two books are pretty advanced but outstanding. Ivan Marks' book on floatfishing is also good.

DaceAce, thank you for recommending the Allan Haines book as you say £3 from Amazon. This is exactly what I had in mind :Hat:

Bill Lanes book on floats is pretty special. Better than most in my opinion! It does exactly what you requested. He didn't just write about floats, he invented some.

Yes I agree Billy Lane books are very good, having fished with him on the Thames also the River Cam in a match, I can vouch for his skills.
