I have no idea what your upto Ian, but it looks very skilful and knowledgeable.

Simply put, gorgeous.
Your tutorials are amazing Ian. This fly looks like it would slay the fish here in Colorado.
I'm going to have to tie some up for myself.

Mayflies, olives, blue duns etc etc, those flies are tied to look like the naturals. The fly in this tutorial isn’t meant to look like anything in particular, but at the same time, would cover a few different species,in particular, sedges, moths, even fry. We would be casting this fly near the tail of a pool, either 11 o’clock or 1 o’clock depending to the direction of flow, and allowing it to swing round and into the bank. Twitching it as it swings round can induce a vicious take. As it swings round, the fly should only be just under the surface enough that it doesn’t create a wake, and the fish sees it as a silhouette against the twilight (gloaming),hence why it can represent different species.Pallenpool wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:21 pm I have no idea what your upto Ian, but it looks very skilful and knowledgeable.
When it becomes difficult to see a float due to the sun setting, that’s when I would be starting to fish this fly peter,at the tsize I’ve tied it.
Glad you like it

It can be tied minus the wing iasgair and in smaller sizes as a spider pattern. Tie a few because the fish will be playing tug of war with it

Another great tutorial Ian
I used this pattern a lot in both winged and spider styles on the lower Don when I was at university in Aberdeen. It is what I still base a lot of my hedgehog/sedgehog/half sedgehog and mini muddler patterns on - time served natural drab materials with a touch of metallic reflection via the rib and perhaps a splash of colour in the thread.
Keep up the great work mate
