Dads fishing basket

Post by Barbelseeker »

Went to pick up a Hucknall/Rolls Royce centrepin last night and look over a few rods someone had for sale. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw an old fishing basket and immediately recognised it as one of my fathers. Rather soiled and dirty but in what was otherwise a good example of one of his Cane and wicker baskets.

Anyway - a good power wash and here is the result:

It needs a bit more scrubbing and some linseed oil (my first use of this) and its a valued user for Ravensfield.

I love the two colours of wicker. Makes my single colour basket look a bit plain. It looks to be in great condition. I hope you enjoy using it.
What do they know of fishing who know only one fish and one way to fish for him?

i don't recall him making many bi-colour ones. Seeing as he could turn out about 15 per week, over 20 years, it is a bit of a rarity.

This stands out slightly more than the brown Cane and buff willow, being white cane and buff willow.

Size is 17" wide, 12" deep by 13" high.

What a touching find, I bet you were elated.
The basket looks good and strong, fit for another 50 years use :Hat:
