Unknown Aspindale???

Post by BeardyRich »

Guys, please forgive me for posting about rod identification again. I do realise that a lot of Aspindale rod info is already on the forum but I do have a rod, believed to be an Aspindale Aero. The trouble is that there isn’t an inscription on the butt.
I have taken ring spacing and taper measurements in the hope that someone might be able to check theirs against mine.
The rod is 3 piece, all split cane with a 24”handle and weighs 13.85 ozs. At the he moment, I believe it could be one of these rods…
An Aero No892
Aero No 8
Match rod 913
Lots of others I’ve already discounted on the basis of build, length and weight.
I can post tapers and ring spacings if anyone is willing to compare.
Thanks.

Trudale - 12ft - 12.5oz - - according to the makers.

I have a Severndale at 12ft but not weighed or measured it.

Hi Olly, thanks for replying. The info I’ve found is this…
Trudale 12ft all split cane.
Aero No8 12 ft weighing 14ozs.
Aero 892 12ft all split cane.
I did originally think mine could be a Severndale but the handle on mine is longer.
The Aero No8 could be a contender, but I don’t have any weights for the Trudale or Aero892. I’m hoping someone in the group might have some rods they can measure for me. It would be nice to identify the rod. It was sold to me as an Aero but without any paperwork or inscription it’s very difficult to tell.

I have a few Aspindales from very early to later Dalesman versions, At 14oz it doesn't sound hollow built, which the Severndale is, so heavier = not hollow. That restricts it somewhat.

An Aero I believed was also hollowbuilt - although I will be corrected on that! ~I may have done so below!

"IntheNet" website has the Aero 8 with size marked reel fittings - and weighing 14oz - but with a length of 12ft 3in.

Hehe, it’s a mystery wrapped up in a conundrum isn’t it?
If only I could match the tapers to a known rod that would help.
I suppose the most obvious way to determine hollow built or not is to weigh each section?
Mine are here…
Tip section 1.50ozs
Middle section 3.65ozs
Butt section with rubber button 8.70ozs

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

Just throwing this out there again… do any forum members know of an all split cane 12ft Aspindale with a 24” handle?
As my previous posts will show, I’m trying to identify my rod which is possibly an Aero.
I’ve managed to compile a shortlist I believe one of which could be my rod. POSSIBLY…
Trudale 12ft all split cane
Aero No8 12 ft weighing 14ozs 12’3”??
Aero 892 12ft all split cane
Swiftdale all split cane but only 11ft??
Aero models
890 is 11ft
891 is 11ft
892 has section lengths of 49 1/2”. Possibly 12ft??
896 is 11ft

Could anyone out there confirm these details?
From the above, I’m leaning towards my rod being either a Trudale or an Aero892 but am unsure of handle lengths, rod tapers or rod weights. Thanks.

How many Aspindales have a 24" handle , 12 ft length, a shoulder collar and weigh 14 ozs with all built cane sections?.

TBH I i think the answer is none ..............unless someone has extended the handle on an Aero No/8 and the script is hiding under the handle
